RAILROAD TIES TABLE
White Oak, Clear Epoxy, Steel
dual component lacquer.
The idea and inspiration for this table came after seeing (two) pieces of genuine Oak railroad ties that stayed in a corner at the owner’s yard. After re-sawing the two pieces, a dramatic, rich textured of the wood was revealed.
Taking many years of use as ties, the material was full of holes from original hardware and time created dents.
In order to achieve a seamless, dent-less surface a clear epoxy was used to fill the dents and voids, while maintaining the “look and feel” of the time-beaten wood.
In addition, a client request - was made to maintain a natural look, therefore the long sides of the table were only lightly sanded.
